Searching online for answers during an unplanned pregnancy is common, especially when decisions feel time-sensitive. You may come across websites offering abortion drugs by mail or instructions for an at-home abortion. While these options may appear private or convenient, there are important safety concerns to understand before taking any steps.
At Pregnancy Care Center Tennessee, cost-free and confidential pregnancy resources are available, including pregnancy testing, referrals for an ultrasound, and options information. Support is offered in a respectful, nonjudgmental environment, with space to ask questions and gather reliable information.

What to Know About Abortion Drugs Ordered Online
Getting abortion pills online can involve serious health risks, especially when the drugs come from unregulated or international sources. In those cases, it may be difficult to confirm whether the drugs are legitimate, correctly labeled, or of the appropriate dosage. The FDA does not recommend purchasing abortion drugs online.
Another concern is timing. The FDA has approved abortion drugs only through 10 weeks of gestation, and risks may increase if the pregnancy is further along than expected, including heavy bleeding or an incomplete abortion that requires follow-up care. Confirming how far along a pregnancy may be can help clarify potential risks.
Why Pregnancy Confirmation Matters
Before making any pregnancy decision, many women find it helpful to confirm key information about the pregnancy itself. Pregnancy testing can confirm pregnancy, and an ultrasound can help estimate how far along the pregnancy may be, whether there are signs of viability (such as a detectable fetal heartbeat), and whether the pregnancy appears to be located in the uterus.
This information can also help identify concerns such as early pregnancy loss (miscarriage), which occurs in 1 in 4 known pregnancies, or an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs in about 1–2% of pregnancies when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube.
Abortion drugs cannot treat an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy can become life-threatening because it may cause internal bleeding if the pregnancy grows and a fallopian tube ruptures, requiring emergency care. Because symptoms are not always obvious early on, pregnancy testing and ultrasound information can help clarify what may be happening.
